dance through the dances of the ball
20th June 2025 • Eichstätt
With great diligence have I compiled a repertoire,
abundant in dances that flourished between the years 1770 and 1820.
All of these shall be exhibited once more at the ball.
Nevertheless, even the more adept dancers would find it beneficial
to leisurely revisit all the dances in a relaxed atmosphere before the ball,
rehearsing them once or twice, and, if need be, acquainting themselves
with the deviations in the various renditions
(for example, my notably deviant version of Mr. Beveridge's Maggot).
In doing so, one may also become acquainted with fellow participants in the ball,
for the ball itself is always over far too swiftly...
This course is designed for a relatively brisk run-through
of all ball dances alongside participants of the preparatory course.
Anyone unable to partake in the ball is cordially invited
to join us in learning these delightful dances.
During the courses, German will be predominantly spoken.
However, at the ball, all calls will once again be in both German and English,
albeit with the continued use of historical English names for the dance figures.
I adhere closely to the catalogs of figures from the era.
A list/catalog of these figures will be dispatched prior to the event
and made available on the website.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your understanding.
May your participation be seamless and bring you much enjoyment.
In the course, familiarity with fundamental steps such as Chassés,
Pas ferme, and Saute croix is presumed, along with proficiency
in footing figures (Setting, Balances, Rigaudon, etc.),
and lighter Allemande figures. Moreover, a knowledge
of various dance figures such as „Change sides”, „Right & Left”,
„Right & Left hands”, „Hey on the other side”, „Swing Corners”,
„Whole Pousette”, etc., is requisite.
To facilitate your preparation, I have endeavored to enumerate many
of the most common figures for your perusal.
