„It's time for lunch“ in the style of the regency

In the splendor of society, etiquette dictates that no gentleman dances with a lady who has not yet been introduced to him. Lunch and teatime therefore offer the excellent opportunity to formally approach the ladies present and be introduced. To do so, approach the oldest gentleman or lady at the table, who will give you the desired introduction with due elegance. This way, your chosen one can grace your dance card – and nothing stands in the way of a joint appearance on the dance floor.
Lunch, as we know it, was a truly modern invention during the Regency period. As breakfast was eaten earlier and earlier and dinner increasingly later, a small, delicious snack emerged. It was simply called "lunch" – a refreshment served between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
At that time, the first fine sandwiches also appeared, a far cry from what we know today. Tiny, delicate triangles were eaten with a knife and fork, accompanied by pastries, fresh fruit, and sweet cakes. Lunch was not a feast, but rather a light, social pastime—a moment of leisure, conversation, and perhaps even the first, promising glances.
