Whist, Cribbage, Domino & Puff Games Evening in the style of the regency

In Regency England, beneath the sparkling candlelight of ballrooms, gambling was more than just a pastime—it was passion, escapism, and sometimes even doom. Jane Austen often has her characters linger with a sidelong glance at the card table, where the cards could reveal as much as a lady's eyes or a gentleman's hesitation.

Whist, cribbage, and even puff (backgammon) weren't just harmless games—they determined honor and fortune. As contemporary chroniclers report, a single evening could threaten entire lives:

But it wasn't just the risk that made these hours so unforgettable. There was the nervous rustling of cards, the clinking of chips, the murmuring of the company – and in between, a glance, held too long, a smile that promised more than any game.

In 2026, we will bring this magic to life: After a celebratory dinner, the first whist evening of the Jane Austen Ball invites you to sit down at the table – with a pounding heart, a light heart, and the question of what weighs more heavily: the loss of a few chips or the forgetting of a glance that struck deep within.

At the beginning of the event, each participant receives
the same amount of silver doubloons.
You must increase this stake,
to emerge as the winner of the evening.

The ball and the events will take place if the minimum number of 60 registrations for the ball is reached by December 31, 2025.
