200th Anniversary Ball
31st Mai 2026 • Prince-bishop's residence • Eichstätt
On May 31, 1826, a royal union was formed in Munich that resonated far beyond Bavaria: Duchess Eugénie de Beauharnais, Princess of Leuchtenberg, daughter of Eugène de Beauharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg and Viceroy of Italy, married Frederick, Duke of Hohenzollern-Hechingen. With this marriage, the young House of Leuchtenberg forged ties with the venerable Swabian princely House of Hohenzollern.
Through this marriage and the subsequent connections of its descendants, the House of Leuchtenberg is now closely intertwined with most European princely houses. However, the line of the house died out in the 20th century. It owes its origins to Eugène-Rose de Beauharnais, Emperor Napoleon's stepson, who received the title of Duke of Leuchtenberg in 1806 through his marriage to the Bavarian Princess Augusta Amalia of Bavaria. Only after the end of his reign as Viceroy of Italy in 1817 did the Dukes of Leuchtenberg take over the residence in Eichstätt.
To mark the 200th anniversary of this important wedding, the Leuchtenberg Circle of Friends invites you to a festive ball in the sparkling Hall of Mirrors of the Prince-Bishop's Residence. An event that brings the spirit of past centuries to life and recalls the exquisite elegance of the time around 1800.
We, the guests and friends of the Jane Austen Ball, are invited to add glamour and grace to this evening. In addition to music, games, and joyful togetherness, we hope to enchant the members and guests of the Circle of Friends with our elegance—and perhaps even entice them to join us for a dance. A special dance will be offered for those in festive attire, and the dancing angels will delight with two fashionable dances: a quadrille and a cotillion. What a dazzling start to the week before the grand Jane Austen Ball!
So: Let the dresses shimmer, the candles glow, and the hearts beat faster. If you'd like, please submit a photo for a chance to receive one of the coveted free tickets—because only the brightest among us will have the honor of attending this anniversary ball.
